The IEA Prep Team is designed to offer additional riding opportunities to riders grades 4-12 and introduce the interscholastic format of riding. The team will have the opportunity to participate in practices and in-barn horse shows. Participation in the team is a great way to improve riding skills and prepare you for the IEA team!
Riders are judged on equitation – the correctness and effectiveness of their position. Riders compete on horses that are drawn at random, so participants must be able to effectively ride many different types of horses. It’s not unusual for riders to draw and then show a horse they have never even seen before! IEA Prep Team riders will practice on a wide variety of animals to help them prepare for this format.
To be eligible to join the IEA Prep Team, riders must be enrolled in group lessons and be in grades 4-12. Riders must be at least Fundamentals of Jumping level and receive instructor approval. Riders should be able to canter in a group of 4 on a variety of horses/ponies. Rider must also be competent in grooming and tacking without assistance.
